The pre-operational tests of the first turbine at the Gulf Power Plant in Sirte started on Sunday after six months of suspension due to a fire in one of the main cables of the plant.

An official from the General Electricity Company said that the first turbine will be linked to the public grid in the next few hours with a capacity of more than 160 megawatts, after the completion of the maintenance work.

He stressed that the step will contribute in reducing the number of power outage hours in several cities and regions of Libya.
