the Governor of the Central Bank of Libya, “Al-Siddiq Al-Kabir,” reviewed with the American Special Envoy to Libya, Ambassador Richard Norland, the relations of cooperation between the Central Bank of Libya and the United States of America, in the presence of the US Deputy Assistant Secretary of State, “Joshua Harris.” and the Chargé d’Affaires at the US Embassy in Libya, Jeremy Berndt.

The US Embassy stated that the Special Envoy, Ambassador Norland, reviewed with Al-Kabir the progress made to finance reconstruction in Derna and other areas affected by the floods, with technical support from international institutions. We welcomed the release of the rapid assessment report on damages and needs in Libya, which was carried out by the World Bank, the United Nations, and the European Union.

Norland said that the American delegation stressed during the meeting the importance of the integrity and independence of the Central Bank of Libya and other Libyan sovereign institutions, and the need for a unified, fair and transparent system for allocating public revenues for the benefit of the Libyan people across the country, such as the Supreme Financial Committee, that was formed last year.

The meeting also discussed the existing cooperation between the Central Bank of Libya and the United States through the Libya Public Financial Management Program carried out by the United States Agency for International Development, according to the American Embassy.
