A Roman statue was discovered by citizens in the ancient city of Talmitha, east of Libya.

The current heavy rain fall made the precious artifact visible to a private citizen, who reported the discovery to the local Tlemitha antiquity office.

According to the Tlemitha antiquity office “the marble statue,1.57 cm long and 70 cm wide, was found on Italian excavations during the Italian occupation”. This discovery is an important addition to the Libyan cultural heritage.

Ashraf Al-Warfali, director of the Talmitha Museum, confirmed that the statue has been documented and was carefully extracted according to correct scientific methods.
