Chairman of the Board of Directors at the National Oil Corporation (NOC), Eng. Mustafa Sanalla, received Monday morning 30 November 2020 at NOC Headquarters (Intissar Hall) in Tripoli the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Eni Mr. Claudio Descalzi and the delegation accompanying him in the presence of Messrs. Members of the Board of Directors Abulgasem Shengeer and Alamari Mohamed as wells as the Chairman of the Management Committee of the Operator Mellitah Oil & Gas Mr. Mohamed Ben Shatwan.
The meeting discussed a number of urgent topics on the top of which were resuming the important projects which are suspended because of the lack of financial budgets that NOC needs to implement its projects, fulfil its obligations with its partners, maintain the rates of production in onshore and offshore fields and work on increasing it gradually as well as supporting the energy sector in Libya at all levels.
Through his welcoming word to the Italian delegation of Eni, Mr. Chairman of the Board remarked that: ‘We as the Board of Directors at the National Oil Corporation are proud of our strategic relations with Eni and we look forward to continuing this fruitful economic partnership as far as possible to develop the oil and gas sector in Libya.’
For his part, Mr. Descalzi expressed his pride in the bilateral relations that link Italy with Libya in oil and gas sector. He also congratulated Mr. Mohamed Ben Shatwan for his appointment as the Chairman of the Management Committee of the Operator Mellitah Oil & Gas Company wishing him and his colleagues members of the management committee and all the employees of the Company in all locations best luck. He commented at the beginning of his word by saying: ‘We have economic relations with Libya in general and NOC in particular and these strong relations have a significant role in the continuation of this fruitful relationship between NOC and Eni.’
Mr. Descalzi also asserted the Company’s full commitment to its operating activities and projects in Libya in addition to supporting the National Oil Corporation initiatives to build capabilities and provide with the equipment of medical protection, diagnosis and intensive care necessary for combating the COVID-10 pandemic, within NOC sustainable developments projects.
Within his word, Chairman of the Management Committee of the Operator Mellitah Oil & Gas Company Mr. Mohamed Ben Shatwan commented by saying that he would use all his expertise that he had acquired throughout the past years in the Libyan oil sector to upgrade the Company’s business through the close collaboration with members of the management committee and all the employees of the Company and through coordination with the National Oil Corporation and the strategic partner Eni, the Italian company.
The Parties also discussed the progress made in the project of developing the two Structures (A and E) which will increase the normal rates of gas production in Bahr Es-salam in the coming years as well as guaranteeing the provision with gas to the local market.
On this topic, Member of the Board of Directors for Exploration and Production, Mr. Abulgasem Shengeer, added that NOC specialists and consultants are exerting exceptional efforts to sustain production rates and increase these rates in some oil fields taking into consideration that this should be consistent with the field’s nature and according to the relevant governing regulations and legislations as well as through taking the right steps and protocols which contribute to raising the production capacity in a safe manner and preserving the oil reservoirs.
Eni CEO also expressed his appreciation to the exceptional efforts exerted by the higher management of the National Oil Corporation and all employees in the Libyan oil and gas sector to preserve the only source of income in the State of Libya asserting that Eni will continue its full support for the National Oil Corporation which he describes as ‘one of our key allies in the world’.
The meeting was attended from NOC side by both of General Manager of International Marketing Mr. Imad Ben Rajab and Manager of Crude Oil Ms. Naema Sawan. From the Italian side, the meeting was attended by Mr. Alessandro Puliti Eni’s Chief Operating Officer for Natural Resources and Mr. Abdulmonem Arifi General Manager of Eni North Africa.
