Maritime maintenance centre to be set up in Khoms soon.

he Director of the General Department of Coast Security at the Ministry of Interior, Brig. Tarek Shanbour, said that a maritime maintenance centre is to be established in the port of Khoms city, east of Tripoli, soon.

Shanbour -who is also the head of the Libyan-Italian Operations Room for Combatting Illegal Immigration and Smuggling- explained that work is under way to be implement the project in the coming days in cooperation with Italy and the European Union.

He added that a field visit to Khoms Port will take place in the coming days to define and inspect the appropriate place in terms of space and location.

The maintenance and repair work of Libyan boats and marine equipment is currently being conducted in Tunisia and Malta.
