Maltese Foreign Minister Evarist Bartolo has confirmed that the Maltese Embassy in Tripoli is to open very soon.
Bartolo’s statement was made during a phone call with the Prime Minister-elect, Abdul-Hamid Dbeibah, according to a statement by the Maltese government.
The Maltese top diplomat explained that the preparations for reopening the embassy in Tripoli as well as the consulate-general, have reached advanced stages, indicating that the Maltese representative offices will be active in a few weeks.
Minister Bartolo affirmed the utmost commitment to dealing with the “unjustified delays” regarding the visas and residence permits for Libyan citizens in Malta.
Meanwhile, Dabeiba said he is looking forward to stronger support from Malta at this crucial democratic transitional stage in Libya.
The two sides also discussed the resumption of flights between Libya and Malta, in cooperation with the European Union authorities, in addition to facilitating procedures for the opening of bank accounts for Libyans in Malta.
