Italy signs contracts for 140 development projects to assist migrants in Liby

The Italian Council for Refugees (CIR) signed two contracts with UNHCR Libya for the implementation of development and protection activities for refugees, migrants and internally displaced persons.

According to Aki news agency, CIR will implement 140 Quick Impact Projects in Tripoli, Zuwara, Sirte, in Tawargha city and in the Fezzan region, as well as in the south of the country.

The CIR explained that the activities to be done in Libya include the creation of wells, the strengthening of the water system – in particular to support medical and hospital centers – the creation of protected areas for children, the reorganization of waste disposal in limited areas and the promotion of work and development projects .

“These activities will be defined together with the local authorities according to the needs of the communities on site.” The CIR added.

This agreement comes after the CIR has increased its engagement in Libya due to the serious humanitarian emergency in 2018.
