France has welcomed the establishment of a supreme committee for financial oversight, to address basic issues related to transparency in the spending of public funds, and the fair distribution of public resources.

A statement issued by the French Embassy in Libya described the decision as “an important step to create a suitable environment for free, transparent and credible elections,” stressing France’s continued support for inter-Libyan solutions and its adherence to Libya’s sovereignty.

On Thursday, the Presidential Council issued a decision to form a supreme financial committee in order to determine aspects of public spending and follow up on financial arrangements, headed by the head of the Presidential Council and 17 members representing the Government of National Unity, the House of Representatives, the High Council of State, the Central Bank of Libya, the Audit Bureau, and the Administrative Control Authority, the National Oil Corporation and a representative of Haftar’s forces.
