Libya’s state National Oil Corporation (NOC) announced yesterday the resumption of production at the Faregh field operated Waha Oil Company. This comes nearly a year after it was shutdown during initial commissioning due to the blockade of oil terminals by pro Khalifa Hafter forces in January 2020.
As a result of the blockade and deteriorating security conditions, the contractor was forced to leave the field before finalizing the commissioning process, the NOC explained.
The NOC reported that after lifting the force majeure in September 2020, Waha began difficult negotiations with the company to convince them to return to the field and to resume the re-commissioning process and it took Waha sometime to convince the contractor to agree to return.
After inspection of all linear, instruments and treatment facilities the field was successfully restarted yesterday, and the production reached 140 MMSCFPD (Million standard cubic feet per day).
The NOC reported that 80 MMSCFPD will be used to supply gas feed to power plants at Sarir power station to help decrease the suffering of citizens and reduce operating expenses.
