The EU is to give €10.9 million towards healthcare in Libya to enable people to have better access to treatment.
The new programme will focus on four areas; maternity and paediatrics, nursing and midwifery training, mental health and substance-abuse support, and management of non-communicable diseases.
The mental health support will focus on at-risk groups such as ex-combatants and marginalised youth.
“The European Union stands by the Libyan population in these challenging times. This new assistance shows our commitment to alleviate the suffering of the Libyan population by improving healthcare”, said Johannes Hahn, Commissioner for European Neighbourhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations.
The EU currently has a package of €120 million to support 37 projects in six sectors in Libya: civil society, governance, health, youth and education, migration and protection, and the political process including security and mediation.
