The Sirte Oil and Gas Production and Manufacturing Company at Marsa Brega hosted the first historic meeting between the National Oil Corporation headed by the engineer, Mustafa Sanallah, and the Oil Facilities Guard in its eastern wings under the command of Maj. Under the auspices of the UN Acting Envoy to Libya, Mrs. Stephanie Williams, who arrived at Marsa Brega Airport from Tunisia, accompanied by the delegation of the UN mission, as part of the work to unify the oil facilities guard over all Libyan soil and form the proposed new protection force.

In his speech after arriving at the venue of the meeting, Mr. Mustafa Sanallah, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the National Oil Corporation, indicated that choosing Brega to host this event bears a symbolic connotation indicating the national unity due to the long history of this region as a symbol of unifying the oil guard in Libya.

Sanallah said: “It is a historic opportunity that gives an example to be emulated, that this place witnesses the first meeting of the joint committees between the National Oil Corporation, the United Nations and the Petroleum Facilities Guard, with its eastern and western wings.”

Sanalla affirmed that the members of the Petroleum Facilities Guard are Libyan brothers who work together for the country, and they have one profession, and we rely on them a lot for the stability of oil, which is the only source of income for Libyans.

And “Sanallah” added that today’s meeting carries an important message that the stability of oil in Libya is the most important factor for the return of foreign investors and companies to work in the country and stimulating the national economy, not to mention that there are complementary industries that only come with the stability of the oil sector, on which we rely a lot on the protection force. The oil sector is stable and protected from acts of sabotage and closures, and we are all engaged in achieving this for the sake of Libya now and our grandchildren in the future.

The delegations from the Corporation, the Facilities Guard and the UN mission held a closed meeting followed by a press meeting with the head of the National Corporation, the UN envoy and the two heads of the Petroleum Facilities Guard.

Mr. Mustafa Sanallah, President of the National Oil Corporation, confirmed during the press conference that the positive spirit prevailed in today’s meeting and that the views were very close between all the parties who spoke the same language and the same goals.

Mr. Mustafa Sanallah stated that it has been agreed with the UN mission to form a work cell that will meet in the coming days that includes representatives and experts from the Petroleum Facilities Guard in its wings and under the auspices of the UN mission, and there will be another meeting similar to today’s meeting through coordination between all the competent authorities in the state Libyan in the east and west.

For its part, the UN Acting Envoy, Stephanie Williams, confirmed that the United Nations supports oil companies that contribute to oil production and support Libyan sovereignty over them.

“Williams” added in the press conference that the process of unifying the Petroleum Facilities Guard had been launched and a pilot project was presented to secure and guard the Eron oil field, after which it would be circulated to other sites.

The UN envoy thanked the President of the National Oil Corporation and the workers in the sector for their keenness and hard work to preserve the only source of income in Libya.
