The state’s electricity company (GECOL) has carried out operational tests for the first unit of the Ubari Gas Power Plant southwest of Libya, confirming it had succeeded in bringing the power capacity to new levels for the first time with a 100% national cadre.

The company explained in a statement that the unit will add 165 megawatts to the network, noting that work at the Ubari plant remained suspended since 2017, after the departure of the foreign company executing the project.

The Ubari Gas Power Plant will be connected to the electrical grid after completing the Ubari-Fajeej power transmission line, said the project’s management, which confirmed a few days ago that the second unit of the station was also operated successfully.
