The French President, Emmanuel Macron, began a visit to the capital of Burkina Faso, Ouagadougou, on Tuesday and stated that he would present European leaders with a political initiative prepared by Paris to evacuate “persecuted” Africans in Libya.

Macron did not give any hint as to the content of the French initiative. He was quoted as saying “I propose that Africa and Europe should come to the rescue of forcibly detained people in Libya by providing massive support to evacuate those at risk”, referring to media reports of African migrants being sold in Libya.
