The Egyptian Embassy in Tripoli will return at full capacity within three to six months, the Egyptian Ambassador to Libya Mohamed Tharwat said on Sunday.
The ambassador’s statement came during a meeting with officials of the Chamber of Commerce, Industry, and Agriculture in Misrata.
“Within a period of three to six months, we hope the embassy will return to work, but we are here, and the staff is coming in succession to Tripoli,” the ambassador said in a video statement published on the Chamber’s Facebook page.
He indicated that the embassy’s building in Tripoli has been subjected to some acts of sabotage during the past years and requires some maintenance work, ensuring “when the embassy opens its doors, things will return to what they were before the crisis.”
On trade exchange between the two countries, Ambassador Tharwat confirmed that Cairo has decided to resume relations with all regions in Libya, not just Misrata, at the fastest pace.
For his part, the head of the Libyan Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Muhammad Al-Ra’id, clarified in a press statement that they discussed several files with the Egyptian ambassador, including commercial cooperation the return of Egyptian labour, stressing that work in this direction is proceeding at an accelerated pace.
It is noteworthy that the Egyptian ambassador arrived in Tripoli about over a week to lay the ground for the resumption of the diplomatic work.
