The British ambassador to Libya, Nicholas Hopton, stressed the necessity to respect the demands of the Libyan people on the issue of the immediate departure of foreign forces and mercenaries from their land.
Hopton added in a televised statement that his country is willing to work to achieve this, so that Libya can move towards the elections in peace, which are due to be held at the end of this year, in order to restore full sovereignty for the country, as he put it.
The ambassador added that Britain continues to support the Libyan people and the Government of National Unity in a number of matters, including economic cooperation and security, especially in the field of the removal of mines and remnants of war.
