Medicine dispensing smart card to be launched by eastern Libyan government.

Eastern Libyan government is preparing to launch a smart card service to dispense medicine, its eastern-based state LANA news agency reported yesterday.

The report said the eastern-based Libyan Prime Minister, Abdulla Thinni, discussed the project with the eastern-based branch of the state Medical Supply Organization (MSO) at his Benghazi headquarters. The MSO is the Libyan state entity responsible for importing and distributing medicine free to state hospitals.

During the meeting, specialists reviewed how the service would work, stressing that it will provide services to all citizens.

They pointed out that the system will collect data for all patients to determine the dispensing of drug doses to them, through an electronic link that will facilitate the process of dispensing the drug and determine the aspects of its dispensing, which will reduce the occurrence of abuses.

The team emphasized that in the event that the service is launched, citizens will be able to obtain medicine through the medicine centres and points of distribution of for the smart card system.

The meeting concluded that this service will soon start in the event that the necessary legal procedures are completed.
