Libya’s National Oil Company (NOC) confirmed Saturday the cessation of operations at Sharara oilfield south of the country, causing the loss of around 290 thousand barrels of crude oil production per day.

The NOC clarified in a statement on Facebook that its teams on the ground are working to verify the valves suspected of being cut off from the Hamada area, confirming that it has launched a thorough investigation on the issue.

It also emphasized that the closure of valves in the Hamada area will have no impact on the oil production of the Elephant field.

The NOC warned that crude oil supplies to Ubari power station will be affected by the closure of Sharara operations.
