Under the slogan of “Protecting Children online”, a ceremony was held Tuesday morning at the Teachers Syndicate in Tripoli to mark the International Day of Safe Internet, February 7th. It is the first time that Libya marked this international day.

The event was jointly organized by the Libyan Internet Association, the Libya 2020 Initiative, the Tripoli Education Office, the Public Information and Documentation Authority and the Child Protection Team on the Internet.

The event aims to create a platform of constructive and informative discussion and dialogue on children’s security in order to bridge the cognitive and conceptual gap in this regard.

The celebration targeted school children from the fourth grade to the sixth grade of basic education. In addition, there were presentations to raise awareness about the uses of the Internet, as well as various presentations of guided videos on the best use of safer internet. The discussion was followed by a diverse audience, mostly children and interested parents, computer teachers and social workers in schools and the participation of children from Scouts and Girl Guides.
