Cogon grass also called cotton wool grass (imperata cylindrica) is a plant growing in the mountains, central areas and the western coast of Libya. It is a plant of economic value and it is the basis of many products.
“My friend Nader Al-Tuwair and I are interested in this type of plant because it has many benefits that can be invested economically. Cogon grass was Libya’s second export after oil”, said engineer Mustafa Al-Jahawi. “Plants are used in many industries, such as the paper industry, which is headed by the manufacture of paper currency in addition to the industries of various kinds.”
Al-Jahawi and Al-Tuwair are very interested in this plant and its uses and wish the officials to support the industries based on it because it would help to boost and diversify the Libyan economy, as well as to provide opportunities and workplaces for thousands of citizens.
