The Minister of Education has issued a decision to suspend a teacher in Tripoli from work and to refer him to the disciplinary council for severely beating a student at the school.
In a press statement on Sunday, Minister Othman Abdul-Jalil said that the teacher concerned exceeded the limits of the punishment prescribed by law and reached the extent of severe beating incompatible with human and moral values, causing significant physical and psychological damage to the student.
Abdul-Jalil apologized to the student and his family and encouraged parents to report on any abuse against their children in the educational institutions.
Last November, the Ministry of Education issued a decree prohibiting the use of beatings and violence of all kinds against pupils in schools.
