The Libyan High National Elections Commission (HNEC) announced Friday that over two million voters had registered to cast ballots in the upcoming presidential and parliamentary elections, which are scheduled to take place by the end of September 2018.

The HNEC said in a statement the registration index of the voter registration system reached a record high of 2,005,814 voters until 10:00 p.m. (2000 GMT) on Friday.

“Women’s registration rate is still moving at the same pace as last week as female participants made up about 41% of the total number of registered voters.” The HNEC added.

It also said that registration will continue until February 06, adding that it will open the registration system overseas on February 01 through an online electronic registration.

Libyan authorities, under the auspices of the UN, announced going to elections late last year as the last resort for a possible way out of the current political deadlock.
