Minister of Economy and Trade Mohamed Al-Hweij chaired a meeting on Saturday to discuss mechanisms for developing and addressing problems facing the insurance sector.

The meeting at the Insurance Supervisory Authority grouped an array of officials, including the chairman of the Authority’s board of directors, the deputy director of the Administrative Control Authority, the deputy minister of finance, the director of Security in Tripoli, the head of the Municipal Guard, the secretary-general of the Libyan Insurance Federation, and officials of insurance companies.

In his capacity as Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Insurance Supervisory Authority, Al-Hweij had previously advocated for the establishment of laws and regulations pertaining to the movement of insurance companies. Additionally, he suggested preparing a governance guide for insurance, which would be presented to the board for approval.

In August last year, Al-Hweij issued a resolution to launch the Health Insurance Document Initiative for families, individuals with limited income, and people with special needs.
