Minister of Economy urges German companies to resume work in Libya.

The Libyan Minister of Economy and Trade Mohammed Al-Huweij, urged German companies to resume their work on contracted projects in Libya, participate in the development and reconstruction plan, and implement investment projects for renewable energy and water resources.

This call came during Al-Huweij’s meeting with the Chargé d’Affaires of the German Embassy in Libya, in the presence of a number of ministry officials. The meeting discussed economic and trade cooperation and the mechanism for resuming the work of German companies in Libya.

The German Chargé d’Affaires reaffirmed the desire of German economic institutions to enhance trade and investment cooperation with Libya, pointing to the work of German companies to resume their activities in the country to complete contracted projects, and the participation of the local private sector in implementing investment projects.

Al-Huweij reviewed the Ministry’s strategy for economic diversification and the participation of non-oil sectors to increase domestic revenues, as well as the Ministry’s endeavor to create a true economic partnership with Libya’s trading partners in the European Union, including Germany.

He called on the Department of Foreign Trade and International Cooperation to coordinate with the Commercial Department of the German Embassy to organize the Libyan-German Economic Forum 2024 in the capital, Tripoli, and to hold bilateral meetings between investors from the two countries with the participation of the General Union of Chambers of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture and the Business Owners Council.
