Authorities in Ghadames have completed 90% of the reconstruction work at the Dibdab border crossing with Algeria, says Ghadames’s Mayor, Qasim Al-Manea.
The remaining procedures will be completed within the next two days, the mayor said, noting that they will hold a meeting with the Algerian side to agree on a mechanism for operating the crossing point and resume the traffic and trade movement between the two countries.
On Thursday, Libya’s Ministry of Interior held an expanded meeting to review and assess the operational needs of the crossing point in preparation for its opening.
Thursday’s meeting reviewed the operational needs at the legal, administrative, technical, and service levels in order to refer the recommendations to the concerned authorities to complete the remaining communication arrangements.
The Algerian authorities decided last May to reopen the border crossing with Libya for commercial purposes only, which would allow export operations between the two states.
