The General Electricity Company signs an agreement with France’s Total to build a solar power plant

Today, Tuesday, the General Electricity Company signed a preliminary agreement with the French company “Total Energy” to establish a solar power plant with a capacity of 500 megawatts in the Al-Siddah area.

The company said, in a post on its Facebook page, that the agreement comes within the framework of joint cooperation with the Renewable Energy Authority to implement the strategic plan in integrating electrical capacities produced from renewable energy sources to raise electrical capacities in the Libyan network. She added that this is the first project to be implemented from renewable energy sources to support the electric grid.

The French company “Total” had signed two separate agreements with the Interim Government of National Unity and the General Electricity Company, to implement projects related to generating electricity from solar energy during the Libya Energy and Economy Summit in Tripoli on November 23 last.
